What is the best advice you can give a young person just starting out with no experience for getting a job?

I work for a staffing firm and am the business development mgr...I have found that with or without experience 9 time out of 10 an employer is going to look over your work history before looking at where you worked...what I mean by this is that most companies would rather have a person with no experience and have a long history from one or two companies then to have a guy with great experience and changed jobs every 6 months. Make sure that if you are taking a job you have done your research and know it is something that you know how to do or are very interested in learning how to do and that you have intentions of staying there for a time rather then to settle for the first job you find until something better comes along...work hard, learn as much as you can, make a great impression and make sure that if you ever were to leave you give a 2 wk notice and get that letter of recommindation...those will be extremely usefull in seeking new and improved jobs with better pay if you have referals that state that you are valuable and hard working! Good luck and remember that no matter what you choose to do your future is what you make of it!What is the best advice you can give a young person just starting out with no experience for getting a job?
I like Jesse's answer. In addition to that, if you have teachers, counselors, or community business people who would be willing to write a quick letter of recommendation, it would be helpful. What is the best advice you can give a young person just starting out with no experience for getting a job?
Make sure you dress appropriate and act/talk properly - no one wants to hire someone who looks like a bum off the street with poor verbal skills.
The best advice I can give is to tell you to be honest and open and just be yourself. If the employer is going to hire they don't want no surprises .
don't be too picky. and just 'cause you get a job doesn't mean it's time to stop looking. and don't give up.
BE POSITIVE! Your personality is key. The rest... The employer can train you on.
Evaluate what you're good at - your talents, then look for jobs that will utilize and reward them. List your talents %26amp; positive personality traits in your interviews. Resolve to show up on time everyday.
I say be yourself. That is the best way to approach it.
