Can someone give me the best advice to giving up smoking?

I have tryed to stop smoking a number of times, but always end up going back on it, what advice can you keep me to drop the horrible habit and stay stoppedCan someone give me the best advice to giving up smoking?
There really is no one way to quit smoking. .. There are as many methods as there are smokers. ... (exaggerating a bit there). ... I have worked with many people over the years who were attempting to or accomplished quitting smoking. .. Some folks quit by way of prayer. ... Some folks quit by way of acupuncture. .. Some by way of hypnosis. ... Some by way of detoxification through the process of juice fasting to clean the nicotine out of the body for the purpose of alleviating the craving for nicotine. ......... Some folks quit by using a ';Nicotine Replacement Tool';,.. such as Nicorette Gum,... The Patch,.. or the nasal spray. ..... Others quit by having their doctor prescribe them Wellbutrin antidepressant medication to help them thru the struggle of initially abstaining from smoking.

There are many different ways to quit,.. but the most simple of course is to just do it,.. cold turkey. ... This can be very challenging,.... but statistics do show that going cold turkey as opposed to gradually cutting down,.. is the most successful approach. .......... It is important to know that the first 3 to 4 days is the real challenge. That is the period where your body is primarily detoxing from the nicotine and that is when the cravings are strongest. ... If you can make it through those first 3 days without smoking,.. you are likely to succeed at quitting.

There are alot of little things you can do to help yourself through the quitting process. ...

- Drink lots of water. .... this helps to flush the toxins out of your body and helps to alleviate the cravings. If you are experiencing a craving,.. drink a tall glass of water.

- Exercise every day. .. This helps with the detoxing process and also helps to alleviate alot of the tension that comes with the process of quitting. It also helps you to relax and sleep better at night.

- Utilise some form of relaxation practice,.. such as some basic deep breathing exercises,.. and or meditation practice.

- Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. This helps the body to detox and also helps you to feel better in general.

- Keep yourself busy or occupied and avoid idle time where the cravings can take hold of your thoughts. ... This is especially true durring the first few days of abstaining from smoking.

- There are some toll free telephone support lines available to help individuals who are wanting to quit or in the process of quitting. The operators are professionally trained and from what I have heard from folks who have used some of these support lines,.. they can be very helpful. ... One of the lines available to call is: ... 1-800 QUIT NOW ........ Another is: ... 1 866 END HABIT

- There are also some programs available that have been created by organisations such as The National Cancer Society that you might look into. .. Many hospitals in the states offer some of these programs for a fee. Check with your local hospitals on this.

... The bottom line is,.. quitting such an addiction as smoking is not something that a person either fails or succeeds at. ..... There is no such thing as ';failure';,.. there is only giving up,.. or not giving up. ... If you try to quit and you don't succeed,.... don't stop trying. ... It may take you many attempts before you succeed. Everyone's experience with this is different and for many different reasons. .... Just keep pursuing it. .. You will eventually make it. .......... As Mark Twain once said; ';Quitting smoking is a piece of cake. I've done it a million times.';

..... Don't give up!

Hopefully this information will be of some help to you.Can someone give me the best advice to giving up smoking?
I TIRED MANY TIMES ALSO BUT THE ONLY THING THAT WORKED WAS ''COLD TURKEY'' IT'S BEEN 2 YEARS NOW
DNT SMOKE
Hi, I'm in the same situation. I'm desperate to give up too.

I saw ';This Morning'; the other day %26amp; they had 3 smokers on the programme who'd been given 3 different methods to help them to kick the habit.

Here's the link http://www.itv-thismorning.co.uk/HealthA鈥?/a>

The tablets are called Champix %26amp; I think this is my only solution to giving up for good.

So, I have my appointment at the doctors for next week %26amp; I really hope I can get them.
I am currently taking a tablet called zyban which you get on perscription. I havent been taking it for very long so i don't know how effective it is yet but you are ment to take one tablet per day for a week or so whilst smoking, then after a week stop the ciggies and take two tablets per day for seven weeks. I've heard it can be very effective but you still need the will to stop, give that a try good luck.
Good that you have thought of giving up smoking.I have seen people trying various means including Nicotine chewing gums , nicotine skin patches etc but what really works is your will power.Ultimately It is your will power which will help-strengthen it and hold on to your decision to give up smoking, resist all initial urges to let it go and you can succeed. All the best!
I've just signed up with Tesco pharmacy to stop. I've tried and failed before but the pharmacist is seeing me on Thursday, will do a lung function test and test for carbon monoxide. I then can choose 1 method of help (patches, lozenges, gum etc) which I get for 拢6.50 per week. I go back weekly for 6 weeks and in that time should give up completely. Like weight watchers for smokers really xxxx
Firstly, let me give a short introduction. I'm an ex-smoker, a pack a day guy, and it's only been 2 months since I quit smoking completely and I can't even bear the smell of cigrattes now when I couldn't even go a day without cigrattes in the past. Of course, I had failures too, I probably said a millions times ';this is my last stick'; but I didn't really quit and before I knew it I would have another pack in hand. So how did I succeed? Well read on. This is MY method of quitting:

1) Set a date when you are totally ready to quit (this could be during a phase of time when you are not really stressed up with work or school, proabably during holiday; and if possible choose a date which is memorable, for me I chose to quit on my birthday)

2)Make a list on why you want to quit, it could be because you want to save money, for a better health, breath better, smell better, taste beter? Because your loved ones doesn't like you to smoke. .etc.

3) (this step will look funny, but you'll realise later on during your quit-smoking journey that it definitely works)--%26gt; If you are quitting on the 15th of January, buy a pack of cigrattes on the 14th of

January. Yes, you read it right, BUY A PACK OF CIGRATTES on the 14th of January, and smoke 2 sticks on that day, not more than that. On that night, toss out the packet which

contains 18 sticks out of the window and tell yourself you are a non-smoker and that you don't know how to smoke :-) To toss

that much cigrattes out of the window takes awesome willpower, but it's worth it, because everytime you want to smoke a stick in the future, you'll think about that packet of cigrattes which you tossed out, and you'll be reminded that you are a smoker no more.

4) Did I mention that you have to quit cold turkey? Yes, in order to be successful, quit cold turkey, however my method is not 100% cold turkey as you'll learn later on. Forget about switching to light cigrattes or cutting down on cigrattes, as long as the nicotine is

present in the brain, you'll still be hooked to it. Don't be afraid of the flu, cough, fever and few other physical and mental torture from withdrawal symptoms. It's actually a badge of honour, it

shows that your body is getting rid of all the toxins. First week is definitely a torture, but don't give up, always look back at the list on why you want to quit and remember, these symptoms are TEMPORARY, usually in the mid of 2nd week MOST symptoms will disappear(for me; varies according to individual. But you should be fine by 3rd week) and you'll actually do away with the cravings. Always think ahead. And yes, since you've done away with cigrattes, your appetite will shoot up. Don't be afraid to eat, gaining a few pounds is better than getting toxins and poison into your body. You can always get the pounds off.If you want, stock up on healthy snacks.

5) Earlier on I said that you'll not quit 100% cold turkey right? Well this what I meant, If you go 6 days without smoking, that means, from monday till saturday, then reward yourself with ONE stick on sunday. This is quite contradictory to what I mentioned in step 2, but not many people have the willpower to say that they will not touch a SINGLE cigratte for the rest of their life. So rewarding yourself at the end of the week is actually psychologically beneficial, because you have something to look forward to at the end of the week, and this actually stops you from buying any

cigrattes. As the weeks go buy, you won't need this once a week stick anymore.

6) Exercise. I don't have to mention much here. It's a known fact that exercise improves your mood, and alleviates depression and it actually keeps your mind away from cigrattes and stops cravings. Try to do alot of running, aerobics or anaerobic exercises. You'll realise how much better you can breath, and

this will encourage you to drop smoking.

7) Few last words about cravings. Throughout your journey to quit, you'll always get sudden cravings, it comes suddenly, out of the blue, as the weeks go by it reduces and disappears definitely. But when the cravings come, try to chew on something, or drink a glass of water, or do some push-ups. For me I always drink a glass of fruitjuice or milk. And each craving only lasts about 1-3 minutes and it goes away, take note of that.

Last piece of advice. It's not difficult to quit. It's all about YOU. Tell yourself you are a non-smoker, it's all about the mind. Don't let anybody tell you that you will not achieve your goal. Just tell yourself it's EASY. Yes it is ;-) And tell all your smoker friends that you are a non-smoker, so that you won't end up smoking

with them when you hang out, learn to say no. With that said, all the best! You can do it!

Mohd Shamir
I managed to stop my 40aday habit last November.Call the national stop smoking help line on 0800 2 4483 8 Between 9am and 9pm 7 days a week. They will supply you with all the necessary nicotine replacement for 6weeks at no cost to yourself .I used the patches and a nicotine inhalator after smoking for 35years i am now a non smoker.
Cut your hands off !! just an idea
'Never take another puff.'

thats the whole thing simplified.
Once you get pass the first three days it'll be out of your system. Keep your hands busy and when after you eat do stuff.

Get rid of your ashtray and stop buying cigarettes. Yes you will want it badly and all but keeping yourself busy constantly will solve it. Clean your house top to bottom or whatever.
As an old friend once told me: You will quit smoking when you stop putting lit cigarettes in your mouth!

Well it worked, and it had be 20 years now! I know if I even took one puff, it would be like I never quit within days!

good luck, and get your friends and family to support you!

Key is you really being certain and committed to wanting to stop. The patches work as do the gum products designed for smoke cessation. You can also see your family doctor to obtain more options.

Good luck!
well..first off all let me tell you i have 2 parents who smoke and they have tried to quit soooo many times its not funny....so obviosly..i know its hard....but...my suggestion is the patches...my mom has those and they were working but then she was soo pis.sed off nad decided to smoke..hope i helped
Constantly keep a bottle of water on you. Drink it alot to have your hands and mouth doing something and to cleanse your body. Always say to yourself ';Where's my water, gotta have my water';.
Sew your mouth up and cut off your hands.
Yes! Find out exactly what chemicals are added to tobacco ... and you will be so upset that you will NEVER touch it ever again
Just do it . you don't need any help, like patches or gum or any of that stuff. It's mind over matter. If you've got the will power, then it's a done deal. Good luck to you.
Don't buy any cigarettes. worked for me (with ALOT of will power!)
take that commit stuff or use the patches. the commit stuff just came out in flavors. hope i could help.
just quit.
...please tell me...i so wish i knew...would gladly share it...and i admire those who have given....i will do it...health has told me the time to stop is getting very close...and i am scared...a bit anyhow...helpppp...and good luck to you...just do not ever stop trying to stop is all i can claim to have done...i am trying to stay that way....you will get there...if i do not believe you can do it i feel i am giving up a little of the faith i have in myself to succeed at it...if that makes sense...lol...so you gotta stop or i wont and vice versa...have faith in your own abilities...i know i have given things up far, far harder than nicotine...have given up huge ones...but this one...hard ain't it mate...abi...xxx
hey, i just quit smoking. Look, I could tell you all the things like Nicorette patches and whatnot, but the NUMBER ONE thing is you have to truly, without a doubt undeniably WANT to stop for yourself. After that, pick a day to quit by (like when you finish your pack, realisticly). And stick with it. Make it like a game and say you'll go a certain amount of months without smoking. After those months are over, the cravings will be gone because the nicotene will be out of your system. Chewing gum helps when you have cravings. Get a big pack of big red for something to do with your mouth everytime you want a smoke. The KEY is to go so long as that it flushes all out your system so the cravings stop. After that, half the battle is won. Its then just pure willpower. You CAN quit cold turkey, don't believe the hype. I did it recently and I'm feeling great afterwards, GOOD LUCK you can do it!
theres a pill that makes u not get the satisfaction of smoking dont remember wat its called
Well I have been where you are and today I am into my 7th day of my quit. The longest and most difficult so far. Cinnamon sticks are great for chewing on, they are also hallow so you can inhale and they fit in your hand like a smoke but smell sooooooo much better! Drink lots and lots of water! Cravings only last 1 to 3 minutes so deep breathing, drinking a bottle of water, distraction, walking, sit ups what ever it takes to get past the craving, one craving at a time, one hour at a time one day at a time......kind of like procrastination.....lol

I do have to tell you that I have cried for days, got angry like I didn't know I had it in me....finally went to the doctor who prescribed a mild sedative to help keep me on an even keel.....I wouldn't have stayed quit if I continued to lose control.....need a new frame for a door......eeks! No bad days since.....just very proud I have made it this far and know that this is the ONE!

Also it is interesting to know that on average a person attempts to quit 7 times before they are successful.

Usefull website.........whyquit.com......certain鈥?motivating although I do not agree with their policy on NRT's

Wishing you the best of luck.......
Don't buy any. Worked for me. It was tough, though! Just stick with it, the only time you need to be strong is when you're passing a newsagents, but it takes the focus from not smoking to not buying. You're not giving up the fags, you're giving up buying them, which, to me, felt much easier.

It will depend on how many you smoke, though. If you smoke loads, seek advice from your doctor.

Good luck!
Not easy but - just stop! 24 hours and you are already clearing your body out. The first 24 hours are very hard. Find something to do with your hands - write, crosswords, knit anything. When you crave a cigarette..pick up a carrot and eat it or a bit of apple.

Keep active - the main reason people fail after the first 24 hours is because they are doing nothing and bored! Go for a walk!

Most of all, stay away from people that do smoke (even friends)!

If you can get over the first two days..without smoking..it gets easier as your dependance on nicotine goes!

Go to your doctor and ask for help..they are geared up now to help..patches can be prescribed to ease the nicotine withdrawl..you will notice a difference in how your body behaves very quickly. Food tastes different.

I know..I did it - 20 yrs a smoker and gave up just like as above. Not touched one in 3 yrs now and don't want to.
Stop putting anymore cigarettes in your mouth!

Well that is not so sarcastic as it seems but it is the only way.

I quit 18 months ago.

Really depends on which airports you go to for your connecting flights. I would go with (b) because I would try to steer clear of Heathrow, LaGuardia, or JFK.

If your flying into BWI or National, you will probably have a pretty smooth transition. Dulles can be a pain because of their little tram system though.
B) Ronald Regan and O'Hare airport will have every accommodation you are looking for without the congestion of JFK airport in NYC

  • Can anyone please share their experience and their best advice on buying/owning rental properties?

I was wonder about tips on financing, paying for the units, finding rental markets in my area, finding investor friendly companies (broker, title, and escrow, PMs). I'm looking to invest for the long term. Thank YouCan anyone please share their experience and their best advice on buying/owning rental properties?
Trying to put my last 20 years of owning and leasing rental properties into a small space like this is going to be difficult. You should try to find Landlords and Landladies in your area you can network with. Know your rental laws for your state (you should find them online), find a real estate agent that has sold multi-plexes/ rental properties before, the more the better; you can squeeze some info out of him/ her, becasue he/ she more then likely is a landlord, too. They also know the best mortgage firms and Title companies. Brace yourself for a lot of hard work, long delays and don't let your emotions run your business, but don't be cold-hearted either (think about what you would do, if you had to evict your tenants for non-payment of rent, they have 4 small kids and it's right before X-Mas). The units should pay for themslves (including utilities that your tenants do not pay, and any repairs, so some will go to savings). You should get a business licence and become a limited Liability Company (LLC). there are tax advantages if you have a multi-plex and live there, but you should see a tax specialist for that. Shop around for insurance, if you insurance and they can insure you house, your car and other stuff, it gets cheaper. Get a large down-payment together and be prepared for cavity-search lile inquiries about your finances by the mortgage company see them a year prior to wanting to purchase to find out what you can do to improve your credit and the maximize the amount they will give you). Find out about First-time home-buyers advantages of your state. lastly, you need tons of luck finding the property that suits you most AND finding good tenats. Good luck! Can anyone please share their experience and their best advice on buying/owning rental properties?
Decide if you want to buy cheap and fix them up. WHich is not too hard but it eats up your money and requires workmen who may or may not show up to work while you wait for them.

Or do you want to buy pretty houses which cost $20,000 more but have been lovingly maintained.

Then run some ads and be willing to say NO to anyone who is not going to be a perfect tenant. Demand good credit, good references, good jobs, money in the bank. Act like you were getting ready to loan these people $12,000.

Keep your rental houses in wonderful shape. Collect the rent in person on the 1st of every month and accept no excuses.

Where is the best place or best advice for getting a cheap haircut?
you can go to first choice it is super cheap

but remeber whaT YOU PAY FOR IS WHAT YOU GET a lot of the time they are good though all depend on the hairdresser and remeber the cheaper the salon the people are not as experienced

xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo by the way i am from ontario in canada so i dont know if they have it where u live but they have all over ontario they should have it though

good luck oh and u can also cut ur own hair or get a friend parent or something like that too

xoxoxoxoxoxoxo aliWhere is the best place or best advice for getting a cheap haircut?
have you thought about seeking out a mobile hairdresser? they tend to charge a lot less than salons and as they are professionally qualified or should be (check by asking for proof of qualifications). the only thing with mobile hairdresser though is you will probably be required to wash your hair yourself before they come over, rather than get it done for you.

i have used mobile hairdressers and have been pleased with the result.
A barber shop. Usually the small, local ones are cheaper.
If you cut it yourself, you save the most

For adult women: What's the best advice you can give to a teenage girl?

What's something that you wish you could tell to teenage girls these days? Or maybe it's something you wish someone would have told you back when you were a teenager?

guys potentially could answer this also if u wantFor adult women: What's the best advice you can give to a teenage girl?
Cleanse ,Tone, Moisturise....For adult women: What's the best advice you can give to a teenage girl?
    1) Don't build your life around some boy!

I'm still surprised at how many girls pick the same college as their boyfriend just so they can be together. Or pick out a career based on what their boyfriend is going to do. Or drop their friends the minute they get a new boyfriend.

    2) Put off dating as long as you can. You can concentrate on yourself, have some fun, figure out what YOU want. And the longer you put off dating, the longer you'll put off the temptations of sex, which guys and girls both have way too early.
It's something my mum told me,

';Your future lies before you like a driven sheet of snow,

    Be careful where you tread,

    For every step will show.';

My personal advice would be to enjoy your childhood and don't try to grow up so quickly. Once your few years of childhood are gone, adulthood is forever.
    stop being so damn easy.

sorry, im a ';teenage girl'; too, but

females these days are scandalous as

    I don know what.

edit ; thats another thing I forgot to mention, finish high school. I f*cked around, slept during class, left class all the time, came to school high, and ended up getting my GED.
I would say respect yourself and stop trying to grow up too fast, There will be plenty of time for boys when your in your 20's and when that time comes don't give yourself a bad reputation...

Don't try and be something your not to please other people, If they care they will love you for you.

    FINNISH HIGH SCHOOL!
You need to do the best you can in school because your education is very important. Don't try to grow up too fast. Enjoy your youth because it's some of the best years of your life. Treat people the way you want to be treated.
Enjoy being young, don't let anyone rush you into adulthood. Remember you can never go back. Have fun though!
listen to your mum, and ALWAYS use protection! Don't worry so much about what other people think, and concentrate on expanding your mind rather than being merely decorative.

For ten points... What is the best advice that you could give to someone who you would never see again?

In your opinion, what is the best advice you could tell a friend, a stranger, a family member, anybody, that was leaving and you wouldn't see them for the rest of your life.

Ten points goes to the answer that really makes me want to change a wrong path I may be leading, or one answer I really like. For ten points... What is the best advice that you could give to someone who you would never see again?
Tell them to never stop smiling =)

smiles are good for the heart and soul and take you down many more roads then a frown

tell them to enjoy the simple things in life, like who we are, the love we feel and things that make you smile like the way jellos always got that jigglyness and little kids sound so cute when they laughFor ten points... What is the best advice that you could give to someone who you would never see again?
I'd say let's not say goodbye on a bridge because it is bad luck and it means that *one of us will not live to see the other*....o.O.......LOL

    No but seriously, I'd say:

    Nothing lasts forever

    So live it up

    Drink it down

    Laugh it off

    Avoid the bullsh*t

    Take chances

    And never have regrets,

    Because at one point,

    Everything you did

    was EXACTLY what you wanted....

.....like meeting me: your best friend, so don't forget me!!!!!!! :P

i'd advise them to be true to themselves. do not participate in self deception. do not project an image of something you are not. spend some time each day just thinking your thought- get to know yourself. last but not least, don't do things that you would be embarassed/ashamed if your gramma knew about it.
Take the time to know your own mind. Know that you are not alone - it's you and the entire universe. What you wish for you will get. Let bliss be your guide. And most importantly, enjoy your life.
I'd tell them to only follow the path that feels right for THEM and them only. not anyone else. Id tell them to try to achive their goals and dont give up until they do.
Everybody deserves equality. If it doesn't hurt anybody else or themselves in anyway, there's nothing wrong with it.
Live one day at the time and do not worry about tomorrow. Don't hearth anybody and do the right think.
As long as you aren't six feet under it's never too late or impossible to change the path you are on. How badly do you want to get off that path?
People who ask our advice almost never take it. Yet we should never refuse to give it, upon request, for it often helps us to see our own way more clearly

Don't follow any advice, no matter how good it sounds

You could tell them that you will meet again, in heaven.
dude i suck at giving advices.
Who cares you'll never see them again!
I would say to them 'i do hope you make the right desicions. i wish you all the luck for your future'
Don't wear your socks in the bathtub
I'd say,,write soon and take care of yourself
see you on aim? if not...facebook? if not...myspace??

Whats the best advice you got to help you out during breastfeeding?

Im going to breastfeed my third child and I really dont want to stop early like I did with my first 2 because of reasons like. (milk supply deminished and painful bleeding)

Im looking for any and all of the best advices you all got or have!!! Thanks, KellyWhats the best advice you got to help you out during breastfeeding?
It seems like you already got a lot of advice from everyone. Once you start breastfeeding, you can ask form more specific advice according to your needs.

The only thing I have to say is, if you really want to do this, don't give up no matter what.

Educate yourself, eat healthy, drink plenty of water, drink red raspberry leaf tea, carrot juice, take fenugreek and blessed thistle capsules, nurse on demand, keep baby close to you... All of these are things that 'll help you. But the one thing that helped me the most, was my determination to keep going. Formula was not an option. I took it day by day, and thanked God for every day I could nurse. For me it wasn't easy, and I heard over and over from friends and loved ones, to just give up. Luckily I didn't .

You can do this if you really want. Hopefully breastfeeding will be a breeze for you, and you won't ever have to ask a single question at y/a!! But even if it's not, whatever the obstacle is, you can overcome it. You 'll get your strength by watching your baby grow to be healthy and beautiful.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Congratulations!!! Have a wonderful experience nursing!Whats the best advice you got to help you out during breastfeeding?
Hmmm. I had a bunch of helpful info my first time around.

It's ok for the baby to be on the breast pretty much 24/7 for the first few weeks. Feeding on demand is key to establishing a great supply early on. Your milk can take 4-5 days to come in, AND THAT'S NORMAL.

Newborns have tiny tummies, just because the baby seems to be eating all the time does NOT mean you have a supply problem. Count the wet diapers rather than watch the clock to see if the baby is eating enough...

Use Lansinoh after every feeding the first 2 weeks. Use it two weeks before your due date 3 times a day.

If your baby is large enough, and you're not too large for it to be uncomfortable, learn how to do the sidelying nursing positions so that you can sleep while the baby sleeps. This was HUGELY helpful. Safe cosleeping guidelines are available at www.askdrsears.com There are some instances where it should be avoided and the link below provides specific advice.

Stay hydrated and fed. Stash bottles of water everywhere you might nurse and keep sandwich baggies of high protein snacks anywhere you might be nursing before you bring the baby home and make sure they get restocked each day.

I think those are the biggies that got me through the early days and will hopefully get me through them with the next baby due in 2 weeks. Best wishes to you on your third baby!
You know, Yahoo! was the only place i got positive advice. Everyone else told me to 'give myself a break'. Ugh.

The only thing I could do was too suck it up and push myself through the hard times. They did get better, I swear. Every little hurdle gets smaller, every feed makes it a tad easier :)

    Goodluck mama
The best advice was take your baby to bed with you and nurse. I got the rest I needed to relax and stop worrying about my milk supply and baby got lots of access to the breast. When I spent a few days doing nothing but nursing, my milk supply finally started to increase and my baby was able to go longer between feedings. Also, the skin contact is good for babies. It helps them remember how to suck properly. It sounds like hocus-pocus, but I swear it works!
I was told to nurse frequently %26amp; pump when I can't nurse to keep my supply up. I was also told to try some of the homeopathic ways of increasing milk supply like Nursing Mother Tea by YOgi Tea Company.

    Good Luck!
When I got mastitis for the 2nd time %26amp; was feeling down about breastfeeding, my OBGYN was encouraging. She said to set short-term goals for myself for breastfeeding %26amp; that even though breastfeeding was great for my baby, formula feeding was really good too. She said that in the US, we are really lucky to also have good formula and that formula fed babies are really healthy too! I went on to breastfeed my baby for 12 months--each week that I perservered with breastfeeding made it so much easier %26amp; I was really proud of myself for continuing. There are a lot of hurdles for some women when they are breastfeeding, but you can overcome them %26amp; be very successful at it. Be proud of yourself for even breastfeeding for a day! Best wishes!
    Kelly,

Congrats on your third! I have three and it is really much easier than I thought it would be. That is after the first few weeks that are always tough.

You have already gotten some great advice from others and I would just add to get a nice sling for baby. I didn't have one until my third and didn't know what I was missing.. I can actually walk around the mall and nurse her in the sling and now one even knows. It is great when you already have other kids!

Also just remember that breastmilk is based on supply vs demand so put the baby to the breast on demand and yes sometimes it will feel like it is 24/7 but just until your supply is built up or they go through a growth spurt.

    Best of luck!
Don't give any bottles or pacifiers in the first 3 weeks! It can cause nipple confusion and latch on problems. Nurse baby on demand. You supply will adjust and meet the needs of your baby. Take it easy for at least the first month and forget about housework and everything else. Rest and nurse! Let someone help you with the other kids and the chores!

Go to La Leche League meetings! It's great to have the support and you can get pointers. Or at least contact them if you have ANY problems with sore nipples, latch on, etc.
I wish I had studied up on it a lot more I didn't think it would be so difficult I really assumed it would be so easy and now I see that it is hard but worth it I didn't get a whole lot of good advice until I started having trouble but I'm still at it 10 weeks later and it is finally getting easier!!!!!!
i used lotion that the hospital gave me and when i wasnt breast feeding i used a warm wash cloth to help the milk flow more easily also try long hot showers with the water running onto your breasts this helped me get more milk in and also make it that they didnt hurt as much the doctors told me that this was the easiest way
I had the same problem when breastfeeding my first 2 (diminishing milk supply, not enought time to devote to it). So, naturally I thought things would be the same the third time around. But first off, remember that you are pretty much a professionaly when it comes to breastfeeding this time. And just approach it with that confidence and it will probably go much better. I am currently nursing our third child and I just went into it with a headstrong attitude. Just tell yourself that you know what to expect and be prepared for it (get some pure lanolin ointment for the soreness, it helped sooo much) and just do what you can. Just the fact that you want to do this for your child while 2 other ones run around the room says a lot about what you will do for your children. Good luck
The best advice was from a lactation consultant in my midwife's office. She said that pacifiers and bottles should be avoided until breastfeeding has been well-established because they can really interfere with the baby learning how to suck properly and get milk from a breast.

So... no pacis or bottles for at least 3-4 weeks was what I was told. And it was great because my son never really got hooked on pacifiers! He would suck on one every once in a while when he was a couple months old... but we didn't have to deal with them much and didn't have to deal with binky weaning... which can be a PAIN!

    Congratulations and best wishes.!
The best advice I received (and this is so true) is to make sure that your baby latches on correctly the first time. Don't think you will work on the latch later. It's too difficult to correct after your baby has gotten used to latching on improperly. Get help in the hospital immediately if you have ANY questions as to if it's the correct latch or not. I thought my baby was latching on right the first couple of days but she wasn't and it was causing pain and I was bleeding. The lactation specialist corrected me and we had to spend about a week correcting the baby. Good luck.
Hon, I got great advice from a message board.

The best advice I got was about cluster feeding and grwoth spurts.

Babies have growth spurts around 3 days, 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months... Baby will nurse alot during them. It is their way of boosting your milk supply for their growing needs.

Also, don't time feedings. Let beby nurse as long as she/he wants at each breast. If baby falls asleep at the first one, Just use the other at the next feeding. You don't always have to use both. Baby may also prefer one breast over the other. That is also normal.
make sure first that you rotate each breast between feeds so your baby gets the milk from both, this way it helps against mastitis which hurts a lot. I also used nipple sheilds which help by collecting milk that leaks that can be embarrasing. Also if your boobs get hot use big cabbage leaves in your bra that have been in the fridge for a while to cool them down, it is cheaper than the cool packs you can get and feels better. If ypu express milk use an avent hand pump, ive tried loads and they are by far the best around, quick and simple. I also got told that after a feed rub a bit of your milk into your nipple as this prevents soreness and it works! Good luck.
I have some advice for you. Women are to be seen and not heard. Quit your bitchin' and get back to the kitchen. You're cruisin' for a bruisin' baby.

  • Whats the best advice you can give to someone with first time upper only dentures?

I just got mine yesterday . uppers only. besides being sore from the 6 front teeth that had to be pulled..I am having big time trouble/problem chewing and getting past the whole feeling of this new thing in my mouth. Please tell me this is going to get easier?Whats the best advice you can give to someone with first time upper only dentures?
Yes. It will get easier. It will probably take 2-4 weeks for your palate to get used to having something there(after sore spot adjustments at the dental office, anyway). Don't use any adhesive(if you can). Your own saliva is the best form of suction your palate can get. Hang in there, it'll get better.Whats the best advice you can give to someone with first time upper only dentures?
I got all my top and 8 of my bottom pulled 8 days ago plus my widsoms all 4, i had immediate dentures put in on the top only as my lower jaw i have alot of problems with and need to get more surgery there Although sore (the bottom is actually worse) I still CANNOT eat! I am starving as my top gums are still tender so to speak and i find it wierd chewing or putting pressure there for the moment, i am doing the whole small food mashed food and breaking it with my tongue on my lower teeth. I have been told it will take abot 3 weeks but then they denture will losen and i will be back where i started! I have also been told it takes time but it will all seem normal and natural in the end. I would kill for a nice juicy steak at the moment LOL but i n only do what i can do, i am sure next week it will be better for me and you! Oh and this new lisp isomething i am having trouble getting used to as well!
Drink liquids and eat soft food until your gums heal. Yes it will get easier and you will get use to this foreign object in your mouth.
Its gonna take some time, but the best thing to do is practice practice practice, this is something foreign in your mouth and you have to retrain yourself, its kinda like having a fake leg or something, you just have to learn how to use it to the best of your abilities. Just remember these are not your real teeth, and it's a learning process. Keep a positive outlook on things, and they will go much easier.
I had a partial for a while and you will get use to it. My advice start saving for implants which is what I did
YES IT DOES GET EASIER AS YOUR GUMS HEAL.

How do I make my fan to stop making noise? 10 points for the best advice. Thank you?

That depends on the noise. If its a squeak spray WD-40 directly into the motor while running (this will not hurt it)

If its more of a rattling or rocking like your fan blades are wobbling back and fourth you need to install a dynamic balance. The kit probably came with your fan, it looks like small square pieces of metal with an adhesive pad on one side and a plastic clip. hope this helps. How do I make my fan to stop making noise? 10 points for the best advice. Thank you?
You wont be able to do anything to the fan if they are new. The noise you are hearing are from the pitch of the blades. Just like an propeller it makes a certain amount of noise, About the only thing you can do is to slow it down and that would defeat the purpose. If was an old fan you could probably change out the bearings. How do I make my fan to stop making noise? 10 points for the best advice. Thank you?
If New, Return it. If not then have someone tighten it up. I'm guessing its a box fan. Set a few heavy books on top of it.
Hi Hope. That type of fan should be put in the window. It should run quiet. Check to see if they are vibrating against something.
You can make it quieter by opening it up

and oiling the motor and other moving parts.
What do fans do? They move air.

What is the definition of sound? Moving air.
turn them off and then you wont hear them. lol
u cant make the noise stop that how it is

Do you feel like people truly appreciate the fact that your advice is the best advice?

please feel free to express anything on your chest here. I am trying to get everyone to just love one another , unless you are ugly. I just want a world full of pretty people and world peace. Thank you.Do you feel like people truly appreciate the fact that your advice is the best advice?
I am not one of the pretty people, is there a mediocre people position available? Will you accept mediocre?Do you feel like people truly appreciate the fact that your advice is the best advice?
Nope. There's some days, I think, where people just can't be bothered to *read* anything longer than one line. And they're *proud of this* somehow--proud enough to email you, knowing that you can't email them back, proud enough to delete their Question in question so you can't respond in kind there either.

Pointless, hours-long drama and cheapshots, gotta love it, right? That's the *internet* for you sometimes, not just Yahoo! Answers.

It's enough to make someone just *copy and paste* his Magic 8-Ball for a few years just to shut the haters and the half-literate lamers up. But that would be obsessive too, and stooping to their level as well.

Life's too short. The best way to not be a ';psycho'; is to not be a ';psycho';, you know? The best revenge is to prove your enemies *wrong*, not right, and to move on.

But nobody said it would be easy, right? o_o
I'm ugly, but, I have pretty, little penis.
I am a pretty person that feels you have the best advice! Also, I want world peace.
    haha wow, ur sure nice...

i think that most of the time people know what they are going to do, but they want other peoples opinions
    haha yeah! BOOOO ugly people

  • Can someone give me the best advice to giving up smoking?

Check with your local hospitals on this.

    ... The bottom line is,.. quitting such an addiction as smoking is not something that a person either fails or succeeds at. ..... There is no such thing as ';failure';,.. there is only giving up,.. or not giving up. ... If you try to quit and you don't succeed,.... don't stop trying. ... It may take you many attempts before you succeed. Everyone's experience with this is different and for many different reasons. .... Just keep pursuing it. .. You will eventually make it. .......... As Mark Twain once said; ';Quitting smoking is a piece of cake. I've done it a million times.';

    Signing off,

I know if I even took one puff, it would be like I never quit within days!

good luck, and get your friends and family to support you!
    http://www.gosmokefree.co.uk/getunhooked鈥?/a>

    Try this link

Can anyone please share their experience and their best advice on buying/owning rental properties?

What is the best advice you could give me about school and exams?

Just wonderingWhat is the best advice you could give me about school and exams?
http://knowstudying.blogspot.com/What is the best advice you could give me about school and exams?
And I mean this in all seriousness:

    Do your homework. That's it.

If you're in high school, it will help you prepare for the exams itself, rather than cramming at the last minute.

In college, you will constantly get bombarded with reading assignments, especially if you are a social sciences major like I was. By doing your readings, you will have something to contribute to class, and you will avoid being all stressed out during finals week, while all the kids who ditch class and don't do any work will be pulling their hair out and pulling all-nighters.
    Work hard towards the exams

give school your all - dont muck about because it wont pay of later

revise over a perod of time

dont try to cram it all in a short space because you will forget things

go to bed early the nights running up to the exams

    drink loads of water

    keep fit

and relax thats thebest you can do !
talk to your teachers and advisers because they can give you some good scholarships. volunteer a lot, join a ton of clubs, HAVE FUN, learn how to study because in college you will need that skill.

    can anyone answer mine?

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>
Do your best, but do not stress yourself out, find volunteer work, study, get involved, apply for college early, apply for scholarships, and always find time to have fun and relax.
pay attention, do all you hw and participate. study, before an exam. do not stress out because you know it since you were paying attention in class.

What' is the best advice you would give to someone who owns a male Betta fish?

If your Betta is living in a small glass globe commonly known as a ';Betta Bowl'; that holds about a cup of water, then it's time to upgrade to a bowl with no less than 1 quart of water. While Bettas can live in those small containers, it's really not good for them. Smaller quantities of water can have fluxuating water temperatures, and your poor little betta doesn't like that all too well.

Change your water weekly (if your tank is non-aireated). If you keep your Betta in a tank, then care for the tank as you would for other fish: change about 1/4 of the water every couple of weeks, replacing it with de-chlorinated water.

Bettas are more active, show their colors better, and are easier to keep healthy when kept at a temperature of about 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit, but they can tolerate temperatures as low as 65F.

You can feed your Betta a few pellets or a very small pinch of flake food daily (follow the directions on the food container.) If you want to make your Betta really happy, you can feed him a variety of live foods including frozen brine shrimp, and even mosquito larvae or fruit flies. Don't overfeed your Betta!!!!

YOu can also provide your Betta with some buddies!! They fit right into a community tank with other peaceful fish (neons, guppies, platies, etc.) provided the water flow through the tank is not too strong. What' is the best advice you would give to someone who owns a male Betta fish?
Don't put it with any other betta fish, do NOT put it in a betta bowl with a light, direct light is not good for them, do not keep him in anything smaller than one gallon, don't believe what petstores may say... they need to be fed at least once a day... not two or three times a week like many care sheets say. If he is a petstore ';veiltail'; betta, do not attempt to breed him, the resulting 200 baby fish will be basically worthless, and you will have no where to go with them. Make sure your filter is not too strong, they are not made for turbulent water; if you are not using a filter, make sure to change the water every two to three days, using only treated water... most tap water contains chemicals which are toxic to many fish. What' is the best advice you would give to someone who owns a male Betta fish?
The best advice would be to do some research online, or ask your local pet/fish store about how to properly take care of your new fish.
I think that you defiantly should not put it with another male Betta. You could also breed them but make sure that as soon as the female has her eggs take her out and then the male will take care of the eggs. But you will need another tank for the babies.
Never put it with another Betta fish they will fight. And it loves light. Get a special made fish bowl for bettas that have lights with them.
Do not put it with any other male betta fish.
To see him in all his glory, fins spread put another male betta in a separate bowl against his or put a mirror against his bowl. They are beautiful. If you want to breed him please find the prettiest female you can; this can be hard since most females are brownish. Let them court, in separate bowls for a few days then put them together. Use a larger container because when they make a bubble nest and put eggs in it you need to remove the FEMALE!! The male takes care of the hatchlings. If you have luck with the hatchlings remove papa after a few weeks. When the babies are large enough to tell apart male from female you are going to need bowls for each male. The females are not prone to fighting and can stay together unless they are crowded then you need to have some more tanks for them too. Good luck.
you can get a female Betta fish and put it in a tank next to it and if they dont fight you may be able to mate then and have baby fish. sometime you can put Betta's I'm with other fish

What is your best advice for a mom to be?

I'm 4 months along with my first and will take any good advice! Thanks! What is your best advice for a mom to be?
Follow YOUR instincts. You will know best!!!

If you are having a boy, make sure that you point his thing down or you will have wet sheets alot!!

Don't over pack your hospital bag. You probably won't use most of it.

Don't forget to take your baby book to the hospital so you can have footprints/hand prints put in it.

Make sure you have burp cloths/bibs and lots of them

Stock up on diapers now. All sizes

Prepare meals and freeze for when you come homeWhat is your best advice for a mom to be?
Well I know it sounds cliche but sleep! Everyone told me that when I was pregnant but you don't know how bad you will want to sleep when that baby comes and keeps you up so sleep as much as you can now. Also, spend lots of quality time with hubby or boyfriend now (like go out to eat together, go on dates, etc). You can still do that when baby comes but unless you get a sitter baby will have to come along and trust me that can put a quick end to a good meal if baby gets really fussy in the restuarant.

Another thing, don't be afraid to accept help...when people come over and ask if they can do anything take them up on the offer! It will help you out and give you time to spend napping or playing with baby.

Also, try not to go too crazy on baby clothes. I know it is hard. My son will be a year next month but before he was born I went crazy buying clothes and some of them he never even wore. If you must buy try to spread out the sizes that you get so at least baby will get some good wear out of them!

Enjoy your pregnancy...I am sure you will be a great mom!
Don't forget about your relationship with your husband/BF, it's just as important as the relationship with your baby.

Don't go overboard with baby clothes and items (the baby isn't going to need 50 different outfits and wipe warmers and the diaper genie are a waste of money)

Cook and freeze dinners, at least for the first month.

If someone offers to come help you do something, like clean your house or sit with the baby for an hour so you can sleep, let them.
Well after I'd had my son it was the next morning and I went to change him and realised that I had NO clue how to change a nappy/diaper, I burst into tears (guess the hormones were all over), it was just the realisation that it had never even crossed my mind during the 9 months. Just little things like that are worth thinking about before baby comes along. Congratulations!
Be prepared to loss most of your time to do anything. So if there is anything you need to get done before you have your baby get it done.

Don't buy every little gadget for your baby you probably won't use them as much as you think. Like a wipes warmer, or diaper holders.

If you are using formula make sure you get a formula holder. I don't know the official name for them but they have 3 or 4 compartments that rotate and it holds a measured amount of formula. It has a hole at the top and dumps into the bottle easily. It is so much easier to travel with or do late night feedings when your half asleep.

Try to prepare as many dinners in you freezer ahead of time. You will be so tired and won't feel like cooking a lot. I froze a lot of soup, stew, lasagna. Helped a lot on those days I was too tired to cook.

Don't buy too many clothes and try to buy them big. I have so many baby clothes that was only worn once.

Congratulations, it will go by so fast. I remember thinking I was never going to have my baby and now he is turning 2 in a few weeks. Enjoy every moment because you will wake up one day and think where did this little person come from and where did my baby go.
go on a romantic vacation with your partner. after the baby is first born mothers tend to focus on their newborn plus it will be awhile before you can spend some good uninterrupted time. lol. enjoy every shower you take. after you have the baby you can't just get up and do whatever you want anymore. try to enjoy every second of this pregnancy and take lots of pics. it will all be too soon before its over. get a baby book now and jot down how the pregnancy is going to. congrats your life will never be the same in the best way possible!!!!!
Everything can wait. The dishes, the laundry, the house, etc.

The baby is your life and needs you for everything! Hold lots, tend to every cry, invest in a rocker, sing and sing and sing some more! Cherish every single minute. Look at every detail of that little angel and tell yourself ';I am not going to forget this moment';.

Remember: The first 3 months is the most important for creating a secure baby. If they know mom is there when they need them, then they will cry less and be happier. The following 9 months reinforces that bond and this is when they learn- everything - so take the time to teach them!

Nurse them! Nursing also is a short lived investment but provides them with the much needed antibodies (you can pump if you want but you miss out on some really special times). A nursed baby is proven to have far less illness.

Get a relief person! Have someone you trust who would be willing to give you some time of rest. No matter how you wish to spend that time, but get it!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: The human mother is the only mother that is intelligent and is the only mother that ignores the cries of their child for fear of spoiling them. Babies cannot be spoiled! Older children can, but babies cannot. That is a fact. Even animal mothers have their babies in their family bed until they are old enough to venture on their own so get yourself a ';Arms Reach Baby Bed';. Keep that baby next to your bed for 2 months.

What is the best advice you ever recieved and from who?

';watch your pennies you're never have to worry about dollars'; - ';Pasky'; DeDeminico. I worked for him with his ';play'; - the horses (thoroughbreds) - his BUSINESS was a well known built from the ground up company called Rice A Roni; he also had Vernells candy, Ghirardelli chocolate, Mission macaroni and others. By action - best 'advice' was he'd go to the factory and go down to the floor and talk to employees all the way to the guy who swept the floors - what to do to make the job better? And if it was a valid thing he'd do it.

From the horses he ran it in the same business like way. Those of us who handled the horses every day had input into the care of the horse. He, true to his advice, would not get new supplies just because. If the brushes were dirty - wash them, don't go get new. When the brushes got worn to the point they didn't do the job on the horses (and it showed) we went to the tack store and got all new grooming tools (and they were TOOLS) - not luxury items. He expected us to select things for value - if it cost more than the cheap stuff but was a better value that was fine. Paying more just to pay more wasn't.

When he passed away thousands all the way down to those floor sweepers and, yes, horse grooms, attended the funeral. He'd started in SanFrancisco and when a fire burned the place to the ground he vowed to rebuild - he'd also found a business outlet in the Seattle area and room to have horses as he'd wanted to do - good Thoroughbreds. When he sold the companies to Quaker Oats he stayed involved even though he didn't have to. He showed me it was possible to combine business ethics with compassion and find a balance to include both to make the business stronger. What is the best advice you ever recieved and from who?

What's the best advice for very low blood pressure?

My mother is 75, is not overweight and has had triple heart bypass surgery (years ago) but she gets very low blood pressure and can feel very unwell. She won't tell me how low and won't go to the doctor because she does not want any more invasive treatment. is there anything she can do herself? What's the best advice for very low blood pressure?
My Friend Here are some advices, precautions and other details about low blood pressure. May the GOD give your mom Health.

People who have lower blood pressures have a lower risk of strokes, kidney disease, and heart diseases. Athletes, people who exercise regularly, people who maintain ideal body weights, and non-smokers, tend to have lower blood pressures. Therefore, low blood pressure is desirable as long as it is not low enough to cause symptoms and damage to organs in the body.

What are low blood pressure signs and symptoms?

When the blood pressure is not sufficient to deliver enough blood to the organs of the body, the organs do not work properly and may be permanently damaged. For example, if insufficient blood flows to the brain, brain cells do not receive enough oxygen and nutrients, and a person can feel light-headed, dizzy, or even faint. Going from a sitting or lying position to a standing position often brings out the symptoms of low blood pressure. This occurs because standing causes blood to “settle” in the veins of the lower body, and this can lower the blood pressure. If the blood pressure is already low, standing can make the low pressure worse to the point of causing symptoms. (The development of light-headedness, dizziness, or fainting upon standing caused by low blood pressure is called orthostatic hypotension. Normal individuals are able to compensate rapidly for the low pressure created by standing with the responses discussed previously and do not develop orthostatic hypotension.)

When there is insufficient blood pressure to deliver blood to the coronary arteries (the arteries that supply blood to the heart’s muscle), a person can develop chest pain (angina) or even a heart attack. When insufficient blood is delivered to the kidneys, the kidneys fail to eliminate wastes from the body, for example, urea and creatinine, and an increase in their levels in the blood occur (e.g., elevations of blood urea nitrogen or BUN and serum creatinine, respectively).

Shock is a life-threatening condition where persistently low blood pressure causes organs such as kidney, liver, heart, lung, and brain to fail rapidly.

Just a few decades ago, doctors thought a blood pressure reading of 160/95 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) was an acceptable target rate for most Americans. Today, those numbers are regarded as dangerously high, and blood pressure lower than 120/80 is considered optimal for good health.

The ongoing downward revision of blood pressure standards had led some people to assume that just as you can't be too thin or too rich, your blood pressure can't be too low. But that's not always the case.

Many people who have low blood pressure (hypotension) are healthy and have no signs or symptoms related to lower than normal readings. But for others, low blood pressure can cause dizziness and fainting or indicate serious heart, endocrine or neurological disorders. Severely low blood pressure can deprive the brain and other vital organs of oxygen and nutrients, leading to shock, a life-threatening condition.

    Signs and symptoms

Some people with low blood pressure are in peak physical condition with strong cardiovascular systems and a reduced risk of heart attack and stroke. For these people, low blood pressure, rather than being a cause for concern, is a cause for celebration.

But low blood pressure can also signal an underlying problem, especially when it drops suddenly or is accompanied by signs and symptoms such as:

    Dizziness or lightheadedness

    Fainting (syncope)

    Lack of concentration

    Blurred vision

    Nausea

    Cold, clammy, pale skin

    Rapid, shallow breathing

    Fatigue

    Depression

    Thirst

    Causes

The heart is the prime mover of the circulatory system; with each beat it launches your blood on a journey through 60,000 miles of arteries, veins and capillaries, ultimately circulating about 2,000 gallons of blood each day.

To do this, it contracts an average of 70 times a minute with the same amount of force you'd use to squeeze a tennis ball. Blood pressure is a measurement of the pressure in your arteries during the active and resting phases of each heartbeat. Here's what the numbers mean:

Systolic pressure. The first number in a blood pressure reading, this is the amount of pressure your heart generates when pumping blood through your arteries to the rest of your body.

    Diastolic pressure.

Diastolic pressure. The second number in a blood pressure reading, this refers to the amount of pressure in your arteries when your heart is at rest between beats.

Although you can get an accurate blood pressure reading at any given time, blood pressure isn't static. It can vary considerably in a short amount of time — sometimes from one heartbeat to the next, depending on your body position, breathing rhythm, stress level, physical condition, the medications you take, what you eat and drink, and even the time of day. Blood pressure is usually lowest at night and rises sharply on waking.

Blood pressure: How low can you go?

Current guidelines identify normal blood pressure as lower than 120/80 — many experts think 115/75 is optimal. Higher readings indicate increasingly serious risks of cardiovascular disease. Even blood pressures formerly considered healthy — 120 to 139 systolic and 80 to 89 diastolic — are now believed to increase the risks. Low blood pressure, on the other hand, is much harder to quantify.

Some experts define low blood pressure as readings lower than 90 systolic or 60 diastolic — you need have only one number in the low range for your blood pressure to be considered lower than normal. In other words, if your systolic pressure is a perfect 115, but your diastolic pressure is 50, you're considered to have lower than normal pressure.

Yet this can be misleading because what constitutes low blood pressure is highly relative, varying considerably from one person to another. For that reason, doctors often consider chronically low blood pressure too low only if it causes noticeable signs and symptoms.

On the other hand, a sudden fall in blood pressure can be dangerous. A change of just 20 mm Hg — a drop from 130 systolic to 110 systolic, for example — can cause dizziness and fainting when the brain fails to receive an adequate supply of blood. And precipitous plunges, especially those caused by uncontrolled bleeding, severe infections or allergic reactions can, be life-threatening.

How low blood pressure gets that way

Low blood pressure can be a boon when it results from a healthy lifestyle. Athletes and people who exercise regularly, for example, tend to have lower blood pressure than do people who aren't as fit. So, in general, do nonsmokers and people who eat well and maintain a normal weight.

But in some instances, low blood pressure can be a sign of serious, even life-threatening disorders. And although the reason for lower than normal blood pressure isn't always clear, doctors know that the following factors can cause or contribute to low and sometimes to dangerously low readings:

Pregnancy. Because a woman's circulatory system expands rapidly during pregnancy, blood pressure is likely to drop. In fact, during the first 24 weeks of pregnancy, systolic pressure commonly drops by five to 10 points and diastolic pressure by as much as 10 to 15 points.

Medications. A number of drugs can cause low blood pressure, including diuretics and other drugs that treat hypertension; heart medications such as beta blockers; drugs for Parkinson's disease; tricyclic antidepressants; Viagra, particularly in combination with nitroglycerine; narcotics, and alcohol. Other prescription and over-the-counter medications may cause low blood pressure when taken in combination with high blood pressure drugs.

Heart problems. Among the heart conditions that can lead to low blood pressure are an extremely low heart rate (bradycardia), problems with heart valves, heart attack and heart failure. These are conditions in which your heart may not be able to circulate enough blood to meet your body's needs.

Endocrine problems. These include an underactive or overactive thyroid (hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism), adrenal insufficiency (Addison's disease) low blood sugar and in some cases, diabetes.

Dehydration. Fever, vomiting, severe diarrhea, overuse of diuretics, and strenuous exercise can all lead to dehydration, a potentially serious condition in which your body loses more water than you take in. Even mild dehydration, a loss of as little as 1 percent to 2 percent of body weight, can cause weakness, dizziness and fatigue. Far more serious is hypovolemic shock, a life-threatening complication of dehydration. It occurs when low blood volume causes a sudden drop in blood pressure and a corresponding reduction in the amount of oxygen reaching your tissues. If untreated, severe hypovolemic shock can cause death within a few minutes or hours.

Blood loss. A significant loss of blood from major trauma or severe internal bleeding reduces blood volume, leading to a severe drop in blood pressure.

Severe infection (septic shock). Septic shock can occur when bacteria leave the original site of an infection — most often in the lungs, abdomen or urinary tract — and enter the bloodstream. The bacteria then produce toxins that affect your blood vessels, leading to a profound and life-threatening decline in blood pressure.

Allergic reaction (anaphylaxis). Anaphylactic shock is a sometimes fatal allergic reaction that can occur in people who are highly sensitive to drugs such as penicillin, to certain foods such as peanuts, or to bee or wasp stings. This type of shock is characterized by breathing problems, hives, itching, a swollen throat and a sudden, dramatic fall in blood pressure.

Postural (orthostatic) hypotension. This is a sudden decrease in systolic pressure, usually at least 20 mm Hg, when you stand up from a sitting or prone position. Ordinarily, blood pools in your legs whenever you stand, but your body compensates for this by increasing your heart rate and constricting blood vessels, thereby ensuring that enough blood returns to your brain. But in people with postural hypotension, this compensating mechanism fails and blood pressure falls, leading to dizziness, lightheadedness, blurred vision and even fainting. Postural hypotension can occur for a variety of reasons including dehydration, prolonged bed rest, diabetes, heart problems, burns, excessive heat, large varicose veins, adrenal insufficiency, and certain neurological disorders such as diabetic autonomic neuropathy and alcoholic polyneuropathy. A number of medications can also cause postural hypotension, particularly drugs used to treat high blood pressure — diuretics, beta blockers, calcium channel blockers and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors — as well as antipsychotics, tricyclic antidepressants and drugs for Parkinson's disease. Ironically, people with postural hypotension due to neurological disorders usually have high blood pressure when they're lying down, even during sleep, when blood pressure typically falls to its lowest levels.

Postural hypotension is especially common in older adults who are more likely to use antihypertensive drugs and to have problems with blood pressure regulation than younger people are. But it can also affect young, otherwise healthy people who stand up suddenly after sitting with their legs crossed for long periods or after working for a time in a squatting position.

Multiple system atrophy with orthostatic hypotension. Also called Shy-Drager syndrome, this rare disorder causes progressive damage to the autonomic nervous system, which controls involuntary functions such as blood pressure, heart rate, breathing and digestion. Although multiple system atrophy can involve muscle tremors, slowed movement, problems with coordination and speech, and incontinence, its main characteristic is severe orthostatic hypotension in combination with very high blood pressure when lying down. Multiple system atrophy can't be cured and usually proves fatal within seven to 10 years of diagnosis.

Postprandial hypotension. A problem that almost exclusively affects older adults, postprandial hypotension is a sudden drop in blood pressure after a meal. Just as gravity pulls blood to your feet when you stand, a large amount of blood flows to your digestive tract after you eat. Ordinarily, your body counteracts this by increasing your heart rate and constricting certain blood vessels to help maintain normal blood pressure. But in some people these mechanisms fail, leading to dizziness, faintness, and falls. Postprandial hypotension is more likely to affect people with high blood pressure or autonomic nervous system disorders such as Parkinson's disease. Lowering the dose of antihypertensive drugs and eating small, low-carbohydrate meals may help reduce symptoms.

Neurally mediated hypotension. Unlike orthostatic hypotension, this disorder causes blood pressure to drop after standing for long periods, leading to symptoms such as dizziness, nausea and fainting. Although the end result is similar, neurally mediated hypotension differs from orthostatic hypotension in other important respects: It primarily affects young people, for instance, and rather than resulting from failed blood pressure regulation, it seems to occur because of a miscommunication between the heart and the brain. When you stand for extended periods, your blood pressure falls as blood pools in your legs. Normally, your body then makes adjustments to normalize your blood pressure. But in people with neurally mediated hypotension, nerves in the heart's left ventricle actually signal the brain that blood pressure is too high, rather than too low, and so the brain lessens the heart rate, decreasing blood pressure even further. This causes more blood to pool in the legs and less blood to reach the brain, leading to lightheadedness and fainting.

Nutritional deficiencies. A lack of the essential vitamins B-12 and folic acid can cause anemia, which in turn can lead to low blood pressure. What's the best advice for very low blood pressure?
Based on what I see, this is not a case without complications! That means that she should not try anything to treat this at home.

If your mother is taking medicine now for high blood pressure, she is possibly taking too much.

You should encourage her to go to the doctor to get this looked at. Low blood pressure is not as dangerous high blood pressure in the longer term. There are dangers to low blood pressure - fainting and momentary loss of conciousness on standing etc. are the most signficant complications.
At your mothers age this could well cause serious problems. One very likely thing to happen would be for her to loose consciousness for a few seconds or get dizzy and fall. At that age broken bones are a real risk in a fall and a broken hip could immobilise her.

The usual treatment is to fit a pacemaker which can be done without major surgery.

Try pointing out the risk of immobilising herself with broken bones and get her to see the doctor and get proper medical advice. She does after all not have to take his advice but she will then have a better understanding of all aspects of the problem.
stress her out, that will get the heart rate up!
Your mom probably has some element of cardiomyopathy going on in combination with the hypotensive effects of the cardiac meds she's on. She needs to see her cardiologist to evaluate the doses she's on as well as have a current cardiac echocardiogram(non-invasive) to evaluate her ';ejection fraction';. This will allow the doctor to see how her heart functions and determine the strength of her heart muscle. As we age, these things naturally decrease and some cardiac meds can cause some decreased ';pumping'; as well as hypotension. Good news is they now have a limited number of drugs that can be used to improve the heart's ability to pump and improve the heart's ';ejection fraction';. Your mom also needs to follow-up to make sure her ';grafts'; are still patent and providing blood to the heart muscle to keep it pumping strong.
Get an abdominal belt to pool her blood.
Hi Im a coronary care nurse. Your mother will get low blood pressure as a result of the medications she will be taking for her coronary heart disease and prevention of angina. She must her doctor to rule out any changes in her heart muscle/valves. But it is more than likley that a simplereduction in her medication can reduce/stop her symptoms. There is lots of test they can do, ecg's, ultrasound without being invasive. I must stress with her histroy she really should see a doctor soon for a check up. I would also advise her not to stop taking her medications or not to try herbal remedies as they can interfere with some cardiac medications also. Go and se the doctor with her so you are fully aware of what the circumstances are. Another possibility is, cardiac rehabilitation nurses, she should be under one due to her surgery. They can also help and give advice and support not only in the hospital but home visits too. Hope that helps :-)
yes get a tonic from the chemist metatone is a good one

as it has a lot of iron
When I was in hospital recently my blood pressure went low following a hip replacement op. The remedy was simply to make sure I drank loads of water - like at least four of those jugs they give patients on their bedside cabinet/table. It worked for me.
Low blood pressure in healthy subjects without symptoms or organ damage needs no treatment. All patients with symptoms possibly due to low blood pressure should be evaluated by a doctor. (Patients who have had a major drop in blood pressure from their usual levels even without the development of symptoms also should be evaluated.) The doctor needs to identify the cause of the low blood pressure since treatment will depend on the cause. For example, if a medication is causing the low blood pressure, the dose of medication may have to be reduced or the medication stopped, though only after consulting the doctor. Self-adjustment of medication should not be done.
    Insist she sees a doctor,

If she refuses tell her not to complain if she is not willing to seek a remedy.
hiya not goin to say don't worry everyone worries it's ur mum but a lot of people have low blood pressure because of her triple heart surgery is she on an antihypertensive dugs it might be that they need reviewed which can be done by her gp in the mean time advise her to get up slowly as low bp can cause fainting spells the best of luck let me no how ur mum gets on
avoid salt and possessed food as this does not help if you can get her to the doctors he will put her on tablets nothing scary also gentle exercise hope this helps wish your mum better for us
Hypotension- Low blood pressure (systolic below 110 mm. mercury, diastolic below 70 mm.) may be primary, secondary (eg., shock, Addison's disease) or postural. It can be produced by the administration of drugs to reduce the bleeding in surgery.

Please see the webages for more details on Hypotension (Low bood pressure).
1dl of red vine or 2 glasses of mineral water. Reaction is very quick.

Or tea: 1dl boiling water and 1 spoon of rosemary - to boil for 1-2 min. In the morning and in the evening every day.
your mother should compulsory go to doctor because if you are late it will be dangerous.the solution for low BP is to eat green leafy vegetables
